A major step forward for WA’s future freight infrastructure.

The Western Australian Government has taken a significant step forward in progressing the Westport program, awarding a major planning and design contract to the Worley Arcadis Joint Venture to deliver marine and port infrastructure technical advisory services.

This contract represents an important milestone in advancing the strategic planning phase of Westport — the State’s long-term initiative to develop a new container port at Kwinana to support future trade growth and strengthen Western Australia’s supply chain resilience. The advisory scope will inform reference designs, approvals pathways, construction planning, and robust cost estimates ahead of future investment decisions.

The Westport Business Case highlights the scale of the opportunity and the economic risks of inaction, estimating potential losses of up to $244 billion in economic value over coming decades if container trade constraints are not addressed. By progressing early planning and design, the project is helping to de-risk delivery while embedding sustainability, efficiency, and regulatory certainty into future development stages.

As planning continues, Westport is expected to support long-term economic growth, unlock significant employment opportunities, and provide critical infrastructure capacity to meet the needs of Western Australia’s growing population and export economy
