The $232 million extension of the Mitchell Freeway to Alkimos has been officially opened in a ceremony today, with commuters able to use the new section of road from tomorrow. The project has extended the Mitchell Freeway 5.6 kilometres north from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road, creating a new, high-standard, north-south transport link in Perth’s northwest, including new freeway access points at Lukin Drive, Butler Boulevard and Romeo Road. NRW wins a major $973 million dollar contract for a super pit in Kalgoorlie.

  NRW Holdings has won a major $973 million contract to construct a processing plant under Northern Star Resources’ expansion plan for its Super Pit in Kalgoorlie. The Subiaco-based goldminer awarded NRW’s subsidiary Primero Group the engineering, procurement and construction contract for its Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines growth project. Primero’s scope of work includes designing, procuring, constructing, and commissioning of the process plant facilities by the third quarter of 2026. $187m project won by Ertech on the Spoilbank Marina Project in Pilbara!

Pilbara Ports Authority has awarded the sixth and final major contract for landside civils and landscaping on the Spoilbank Marina project. The contract includes the construction of the marina roads, car and trailer parking, retaining walls, footpaths, landscaping, public amenities building, shade structures, barbecue areas and the installation of utilities and services. The contract was awarded to Western Australian business Ertech. The WA economy is set to benefit, with 95 per cent of contract spend occurring within WA, and approximately 30 per cent of that in the Pilbara. Downer has announced its completed the sale of its $212 million Australian Transport Projects business to DT Infrastructure Pty Ltd. DT Infrastructure’s Australian Transport Projects business is responsible for delivering major construction services to mainly government, including design and construction of roads, rail, signalling, station works, bridges and more. The sale will see Downer’s business, people and capabilities transferred, including around 1000 staff and a forecast work in hand of approximately $2 billion nationally. In a massive milestone for local railcar manufacturing in Western Australia, the first fully completed, locally manufactured C-series train is now ready for testing on the network. The new 143-metre train is fitted out with close to 400 seats, and for the first time, the new design for the C-series has been revealed. The fully completed rail car set will be the first locally built and manufactured C-series train to enter operations later this year on the Joondalup and Mandurah Lines. Works are now underway to prepare for an 18-month shutdown of the Armadale Line, to deliver a suit of upgrades as part of one of the largest public transport infrastructure projects in Perth’s history. The upgrades being made to the Armadale Line include the removal of 13 level crossings, construction of seven new stations and the addition of 5.5 kilometre of Perth’s first elevated rail.
