The $232 million extension of the Mitchell Freeway to Alkimos has been officially opened in a ceremony today, with commuters able to use the new section of road from tomorrow. The project has extended the Mitchell Freeway 5.6 kilometres north from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road, creating a new, high-standard, north-south transport link in Perth’s northwest, including new freeway access points at Lukin Drive, Butler Boulevard and Romeo Road. NRW wins a major $973 million dollar contract for a super pit in Kalgoorlie.

  NRW Holdings has won a major $973 million contract to construct a processing plant under Northern Star Resources’ expansion plan for its Super Pit in Kalgoorlie. The Subiaco-based goldminer awarded NRW’s subsidiary Primero Group the engineering, procurement and construction contract for its Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines growth project. Primero’s scope of work includes designing, procuring, constructing, and commissioning of the process plant facilities by the third quarter of 2026. Pilbara Ports Authority has awarded the sixth and final major contract for landside civils and landscaping on the Spoilbank Marina project. The contract includes the construction of the marina roads, car and trailer parking, retaining walls, footpaths, landscaping, public amenities building, shade structures, barbecue areas and the installation of utilities and services. The contract was awarded to Western Australian business Ertech. In a massive milestone for local railcar manufacturing in Western Australia, the first fully completed, locally manufactured C-series train is now ready for testing on the network. The new 143-metre train is fitted out with close to 400 seats, and for the first time, the new design for the C-series has been revealed. The fully completed rail car set will be the first locally built and manufactured C-series train to enter operations later this year on the Joondalup and Mandurah Lines.
