PERTH AIRPORT’S NEW TERMINAL SET TO TRANSFORM WA’S AVIATION LANDSCAPE
Perth Airport has unveiled the first designs for its major new terminal, marking another significant milestone in Western Australia’s growing infrastructure pipeline and setting the stage for one of the state’s most substantial aviation developments.
The proposed terminal forms part of Perth Airport’s broader multi-billion-dollar transformation, designed to accommodate increasing passenger demand, improve international and domestic connectivity, and support Western Australia’s long-term economic growth.
A Major Investment in WA’s Future
The new terminal will deliver approximately 159,000 square metres of additional terminal space, significantly expanding Perth Airport’s capacity and modernising the passenger experience.
Plans include 22 new aircraft contact gates, improved passenger facilities and upgraded infrastructure to support the airport’s expanding operations.
With annual passenger numbers forecast to reach approximately 30.8 million by 2046, the development represents a major investment in the infrastructure required to support WA’s growing population, tourism industry and business connections.
Thousands of Jobs Across Construction and Engineering
Beyond the improvements to passenger facilities, the new terminal represents a substantial opportunity for Western Australia’s construction and engineering industries.
Approximately 2,500 construction jobs are expected to be supported by the terminal project, creating demand for skilled professionals across a broad range of disciplines.
The scale and complexity of the development is expected to require expertise in civil infrastructure, structural engineering, commercial construction, electrical and mechanical services, project management and specialist building systems.
Construction Planning and Delivery
Procurement for the main construction contract is progressing, with an award targeted for 2027.
The development will require extensive coordination across multiple construction and engineering disciplines, with works taking place within an operational airport environment. Delivering a project of this magnitude will involve complex staging, infrastructure integration and careful management of existing airport operations.
Strengthening Western Australia’s Infrastructure Pipeline
The announcement comes as Western Australia continues to invest heavily in transport, aviation, energy and major infrastructure developments.
Projects of this scale not only improve the state’s connectivity but also provide important opportunities for local contractors, specialist subcontractors, engineering consultancies and construction professionals.
As the development moves towards construction, access to experienced engineering, construction and infrastructure professionals will remain an important consideration for successful project delivery.
The new Perth Airport terminal represents a major investment in Western Australia’s future connectivity, infrastructure capability and skilled workforce.
