Perth Film Studios Opens, Fuelling Jobs and Economic Growth in WA

Western Australia’s long-anticipated Perth Film Studios has reached practical completion, marking a major milestone in the State’s creative and economic transformation. The world-class facility has benefited from a near $300 million investment, with $233.5 million spent on construction and a further $57 million allocated to support operations and management over the first decade.

Strategically located in Malaga, the studio complex features four expansive sound stages with more than 8,200 m² of production space, dedicated workshops, offices, and the largest backlot in the Southern Hemisphere at 23,200 m² — larger than the playing surface of Optus Stadium.

The project has already generated substantial employment, with hundreds of jobs created throughout construction and associated supply chains. This includes opportunities for local trades, apprentices, and specialised crews, strengthening workforce skills and local industry capability.

Looking ahead, Perth Film Studios is expected to be a powerhouse for future jobs and economic activity, attracting national and international productions and supporting thousands of direct and indirect roles across film, television and creative services. The facility is on track to open for productions in early 2026, supporting Western Australia’s ambition to capture a growing share of the screen production market.
