$67 MILLION WESTPORT PLANNING INVESTMENT PAVES WAY FOR MAJOR WA FREIGHT UPGRADES
Planning is progressing on key freight rail upgrades that will support the future Westport container terminal in Kwinana, creating another significant pipeline of future infrastructure work for Western Australia.
Engineering firms Arup Australia Projects and WSP Australia have been appointed to undertake planning and project development alongside Main Roads WA and the Public Transport Authority.
The proposed works include a new freight rail connection to Westport, duplication of approximately eight kilometres of track between Kwinana and Cockburn, level crossing removals and a new North Lake Road grade separation.
The Australian and WA Governments have jointly committed $67 million towards planning and development for road and rail upgrades supporting the broader Westport program.
While currently in the planning phase, the upgrades form part of a much larger infrastructure program expected to generate thousands of local jobs as Westport progresses. Future opportunities are anticipated across engineering, civil construction, rail, project management, environmental services, surveying, HSE and skilled trades.
Beyond employment, the investment will strengthen WA’s freight network, improve supply-chain efficiency and support the State’s long-term trade and economic growth.
With Westport continuing to progress, the project represents a significant future pipeline of work for WA’s infrastructure and construction sectors.
