$230 million investment to deliver new public schools and major upgrades in Western Australia
The Cook Labor Government has committed $230 million to deliver new public schools and major upgrades across Western Australia’s fast-growing suburbs, reinforcing its focus on building modern education infrastructure where it’s needed most.
Included in this investment is $140 million for four new primary schools scheduled to open in 2028, expanding local learning options for families in high-growth areas. A further $57.2 million has been allocated for major upgrades at Como Secondary College and Karrinyup Primary School, supporting expanded classrooms, specialist facilities and improved learning environments.
The package also includes funding to progress planning for additional new schools in Byford North and Anketell, targeted to open in 2029, along with broader upgrade projects across the State.
This announcement builds on more than $1 billion in school maintenance and minor works delivered since 2017, demonstrating an ongoing pipeline of public sector construction and infrastructure investment.
These projects will help generate employment opportunities across the WA construction sector, supporting demand for architects, engineers, project managers, builders and skilled trades. Beyond improved education facilities, the investment will stimulate economic activity through major capital works, supply chains and ongoing service delivery.
As WA continues to grow, targeted education infrastructure spending plays a critical role in supporting communities, easing enrolment pressures and creating long-term value for families and industry.
