McGowan Government to unveil plans for $50 million pedestrian and cycle bridge across Swan River

A new bridge stretching across a popular part of Perth’s Swan River has been announced today, with the project estimated to cost around $50 million. The pedestrian and cycle bridge will connect Victoria Park to the CBD via Heirisson Island and will ease congestion on the Causeway.

The new project which is to be managed by Main Roads WA and carried out by WA companies is expected to create hundreds of local jobs and deliver a pipeline of work for local WA industry.

The new bridge will feature a 6m-wide path, with lanes dedicated to cyclists and pedestrians.

While the State Government is yet to set a date for construction, a contract is expected to be awarded in mid-2021. Construction is estimated to take approximately 18 months, based on the size of the project.
