Another major Western Australian infrastructure project is progressing, with the Greater Connect Alliance, comprising Laing O’Rourke, AECOM, Arcadis and Main Roads Western Australia, appointed to deliver the $180 million Lloyd Street Extension Project.

The project will complete the final section of Lloyd Street and create an important new connection between Midland, the Hazelmere Industrial Area and the Great Eastern Highway Bypass, helping improve connectivity, road safety and traffic flow across Perth’s eastern transport network.

A major component of the project will be the construction of a new approximately 180-metre multi-span bridge over the Helena River. Lloyd Street will extend south from the Bushmead Road roundabout to the Great Eastern Highway Bypass and Abernethy Road, where a new four-way signalised intersection will be constructed. Shared pedestrian and cycling infrastructure will also form part of the new connection.

The bridge design has been developed following extensive consultation, with changes made to reduce impacts on culturally and environmentally sensitive areas surrounding the Helena River.

Detailed design work is continuing throughout 2026, alongside site preparation and geotechnical investigations. Major construction is expected to commence in late 2026, with project completion targeted for 2028.

The Western Australian Government estimates the project will support approximately 280 jobs during delivery, generating further activity across civil construction, engineering, structures, project delivery, commercial, safety and environmental disciplines.

The Lloyd Street Extension adds another significant project to Western Australia’s transport infrastructure pipeline and will provide an important new connection supporting the continued growth of Perth’s eastern corridor.
