$100M Southern Hemisphere’s Largest Wave Park to generate new local jobs in Perth.

The $100 million proposal includes a surfing lagoon (with over 25 different kinds of waves), a boutique surf hotel, a health and wellness centre, a beach club, restaurants and more – just 20 minutes’ drive from the CBD.

Western Australia’s Environmental Protection Authority chairman has announced that the surf park project will not be a risk to the local environment and will not require any further assessment. The project is still waiting on final regulatory approvals but is expected to start construction in 2023 and be open to the public late in 2025.

Global wave park developer Aventuur has been selected by the government to develop WA’s first surfable wave pool. The company’s $100 million proposal will be the largest in the Southern Hemisphere is and is a 20-minute drive away from Perth’s CBD. Should the project be approved, the Cockburn Wave Park will sit on a 5.8-hectare site at Prinsep Road in Jandakot, adjacent to the Kwinana Freeway and the Cockburn Central train station.

The project includes a surfing lagoon with Wavegarden Cove technology and a boutique surf hotel, a health and wellness centre, co-working offices, function and event spaces, a performance academy, a beach club and restaurants.

The goal of the project is to provide a safe, controlled environment that’s 24 hours a day all year round. More than 25 different waves can be created within the park’s surfing lagoon, from knee-high white water for children and beginners, to powerful barrels and steep Point Break-style waves for experienced surfers.

In June 2022, developer Aventuur signed a long-term ground lease with the WA Government securing the site for Perth Surf Park. It lodged a development application in August 2022 and, as of 2023, is in the final stage of negotiations with the WA state government.
